The space

Dogs welcome too, and fuel for stoves is supplied.

Guests say this is a magical place. Hunker down next to the Clearview woodburner with a book or glass of wine, or daydream at the wonderful views. Enjoy a lie-in in the comfy beds or get out into nature and explore the footpaths running right from the cottage. Orientated south-east the cottage enjoys the most wonderful sunrises on clear mornings and enjoy summer sun all day.

Access to the cottage is via a rough single track which is narrow in some parts, about 500 metres long. Please check the suitability of your vehicle in the ‘guest access’ section before booking.

The area is steeped in history. In 10 minutes you can walk part of the pilgrim’s way to Ffynnon Sant (holy well), walk up to the site of the Neolithic axe factory, walk the coastal path towards Rhiw village and standing stones nearby or take the footpath from outside the drive right down to the beach clifftop. Well-behaved dogs are welcome too, we request a £30 cleaning charge for dogs, maximum 2 dogs. Our dog loves the grounds and never wants to leave.

The cottage is heated by the dining room’s main 14kw top-of-the-range Clearview stove with back boiler that drives the radiators. Eco-coal and logs supplied. A powerful second Clearview woodburner in the sitting room complements the radiators. Keep the fire lit to stay warm all day.

The stove will be laid and ready for you in winter, and when especially cold can be lit in advance if you tell us your arrival time (November to March), with some notice. Re-light the stove every day to keep the radiators running, or bank it up overnight. Water is heated by the immersion heater for those long soaks in the roll-top bath. Double and king sized beds have electric blankets for those cooler nights.

Towels and bedlinen are provided and beds will be made up for you, laundered using gentle eco products and air or line-dried. Sanitiser and soap are available for your use and the cottage is professionally cleaned to Covid safe standards. Be aware that despite best efforts we cannot guarantee a sterile environment.

Guest access

The entire house and garden is private to you.

Access to the cottage is via a rough single track which is narrow and steep in some parts, and about 500 metres long. It’s suitable for vehicles up to a width of approximately 190cm / 74 inches with standard ground clearance.

In very wet weather, 4 wheel drive is recommended. You can check your vehicle width online.

You can park at the lay-by on the main road if you prefer, and walk down the track, it provides good exercise ! There is private parking and turning space inside the grounds.

Other things to note

The cottage is very peaceful & quiet with no cars passing by as we are at the end of the track, past several other cottage driveways. There is a public footpath running behind the cottage and onto the heathland surrounding it. You will be in a protected Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the grounds bordering National Trust land. Close by is the National Trust manor house Plas-yn-Rhiw with its own woodland walks, cafe and shop. The house and well-tended ornamental gardens is within walking distance, and the fishing village of Aberdaron is 15 minutes drive away offering a fantastic bakery, outstanding fish and chips, well-stocked Spar convenience store and two pubs serving food. Due to recent reduction of council and national trust staff, some of the footpaths may be more overgrown than usual,
